Identify and SECUR(e) Your Products
SECURtracers allows verification of a drug product ‘on-the-spot’ at the dose level, even when separated from its original packaging.
SECURtracers addresses the problem of:
-
Counterfeiting,
-
Product Recall and Return Monitoring,
-
Product Diversion, and
-
Quality Control
SECURtracers helps reduce liabilities, prevents loss of revenue, and provides brand protection.
Manufacturing these tracers requires extremely specialized semiconductor equipment and technical skills.
The difficulty and cost to acquire such equipment and the expertise necessary to operate it pose high barriers to entry for potential counterfeiters.
Although most taggants require expensive readers for authentication, SECURtracers can be easily identified in two easy steps using inexpensive, readily available devices.
5 reasons why SECURtracers are right for you
SAFE for human consumption
Made entirely of GRAS (generally recognized as safe) materials
Complies with FDA guidelines for use in pills, powders, and coating
Chemically inert, non-digestible, and added at an extremely low addition rate
EASY to identify & authenticate
Instantly identify SECURtracers as gold fluorescent specks using a UV flashlight
Authenticate by viewing micro-engraved lettering under an inexpensive hand-held microscope. Learn More
CUSTOMIZABLE messaging
Particles can be customized to 50-200 microns in any dimension with micro-engraved lettering of 10 microns in size
Engraving can include almost any letter, number, or symbol (e.g., company name, batch number or lot number)
USEFUL for a variety of purposes
Differentiating proprietary products from counterfeits and batch/lot verification
Traceability
Validating recalled and returned products
RELIABLE and protected
A legacy of success: Micro-Tracers, Inc. has manufactured tracers since 1961
SECURtracers is a result of years of collaboration between semiconductor technology & polymer chemists
Manufactured using patented, proprietary process
Authenticate with Confidence - using an inexpensive and quick 2-step process
Easy to Identify
-
Instantly identify SECURtracers as gold fluorescent specks using a UV flashlight.
-
If no fluorescence is detected, the product is not authentic.
Easy to authenticate
-
Using a simple magnetic recovery apparatus, SECURtracers can be easily isolated from pills and capsules
-
The micro-engraved lettering can be viewed under a small handheld 120X power microscope equipped with UV light (cost ~$10 USD).
-
If the correct lettering is present, the product is deemed authentic.

Step-by-step instructions for Magnetic Recovery Procedure

Step 1
-
Mix 1/2 cup of water with suspect pills in the jar.

Step 2
-
Tightly close the jar and allow the pills to dissolve for 3 minutes.
Note: All pills do not need to dissolve completely to proceed to Step 3.
Step 3
-
Gently invert and swirl the solution inside the jar. This will allow the magnet in the lids to separate the tracers from the solution.
-
Flip the container so the magnetic lids are on top.

Step 4
-
Remove the magnetic lid and place it on a flatsurface. Use the UV flashlight to confirm the presence of the particles.
-
SECURtracers will be visible as fluorescent specs under the UV light.

Step 5
-
View the microengraved SECURtracers under the microscope.
SECURtracers are manufactured in Conformance with FDA Guidance
The FDA has acknowledged the potential value of PCIDs as a novel anti-counterfeit solution.
In 2011, FDA published the Guidance for Industry – Incorporation of Physical-Chemical Identifiers into Solid Oral Dosage Form Drug Products for Anti-counterfeiting.
FDA recommends that:
-
the PCIDs be pharmacologically inactive so can be treated as excipients.
-
the manufacturers use permissible direct food additives that are generally recognized as safe (GRAS), or ingredients listed in the agency's Inactive Ingredient Guide (IIG)
-
the PCIDs are added to the product at the lowest level that will ensure the dosage unit's identification.
SECURtracers meets all outlined criteria.
The addition of SECURtracers to solid dosage form drugs should not require prior approval from the FDA.
